Lift Your Weekend Vibes with a Spring Inspired CBD Cocktail

By Tiffany Salerna

For the ultimate chilled out experience, we suggest adding a dose of CBD to your evening cocktail (or mocktail) routine. We created a light and refreshing recipe paired with Faith In Flower’s Lifted which is formulated with 1500 mg of Full Spectrum CBD. Additional organic herbal ingredients including Ashwagandha Root, Bacopa, Passion Flower, Catnip and Lemon Balm.

– A pinch of fresh Lavender
– 1 lemon wedge
– 1/2 tsp of honey
– 1 ice cube
– One shot of sparkling lemonade
– One shot of Tanqueray gin or any gin of choice. (Remove alcohol for a mocktail)
– 0.25mg of Faith In Flower Lifted CBD tincture

Equipment You Will Need

– Mortar and pestle
– A shot glass
– A mesh strainer
– Small scissors
– Two small bowls
– Martini glass
– Cocktail stirrer or a spoon handle will do

Start by putting your martini glasses in the freezer. Remove the lavender from its stems and add 1/2 teaspoon of the lavender into the mortar and crush. Pour the gin into the shot glass and a little less than half a teaspoon of honey. Mix them well until the honey dissolves. Add .25mg (1/2 dropper) of Faith In Flower Lifted CBD oil to the mixture and stir.
Next, add the crushed lavender and stir until the gin is purple colored. Remove the martini glass from the freezer. Squeeze one lemon wedge into the glass then swipe the lemon throughout the inside of the glass and the rim. Place the ice cube in the glass, and strain the gin and lavender cocktail into the martini glass. You can add tonic water or sparkling lemonade to your liking.
Cut the stem off of the lavender flower, which you will use to garnish the cocktail. If your ice has not melted yet, remove it and serve.

While interactions between CBD and alcohol have not been widely researched, according to this study, the combination of alcohol plus CBD resulted in significantly lower blood alcohol levels compared to alcohol given alone, however, there were few differences observed between the pharmacological effects of the two alcohol conditions.
CBD is used as a mood-booster and can have a sedative effect while alcohol is a depressant that can take the edge off. When combining the two, you will likely experience an enhanced feeling of relaxation.  According to this articlenot all CBD reactions are the same because not all human bodies are the same. There are at least seven genetic mutations of the CB2 receptor, for example, which may, in turn, alter the way one individual responds to CBD as opposed to another. As a result, how one person reacts to a mix of CBD and alcohol may differ significantly from another.
In addition, neurodegeneration is associated with alcohol. In a 2013 study in the Journal of Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, researchers actually found that CBD “attenuates binge alcohol-induced neurodegeneration.” Another 2014 study published in the Journal of Free Radical Biology and Medicine found that “Cannabidiol protects [the] liver” from binge drinking, specifically by inhibiting oxidative stress and an increase in autophagy (destruction of damaged or redundant cells).  While this could mean less stress on the body’s long-term and possibly less intense hangovers the next day, moderation always is key.
